This special event celebrates Bloomsday, one of the highlights of the Irish cultural calendar honouring the life and works of James Joyce. Alongside personal true stories, the evening will also feature readings from Joyce’s works — not only from Ulysses, but from other writings that capture his wit, humanity, humour, and brilliance.
Bloomsday is celebrated every year on June 16th, the day on which the events of Ulysses take place. What began as a literary celebration in Ireland has grown into a worldwide cultural event, with readings, performances, walks, and gatherings taking place across the globe. Over the last two years, Bloomsday events have also become increasingly popular in Slovakia, with growing interest in Irish literature, storytelling, and cultural exchange bringing new audiences to Joyce’s work in fresh and accessible ways.
Expect a wonderful blend of theatre, storytelling, poetry, and comedy.

Host: Shane Callaghan
Bio: Shane Callaghan is a stand-up comedian from Ireland who has been living in Slovakia for four years. He has toured across Europe with his solo comedy shows and has appeared on national radio and television in several countries, including the BBC. Shane loves storytelling because it’s an accessible art form open to everyone — and, at its best, it reminds us we’re not as different or as alone as we think. As host, he enjoys finding the thread that connects each story and embracing the unexpected along the way.
